The Problem Is Liberalism, Not Racism

old african manWhen Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., went off on Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., for his remarks that “We have got a tailspin of culture, in our inner cities in particular, of men not working and just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning the value and the culture of work,” the wrong part of what she had to say got all the attention.

When Democrats called themselves “conservatives” they claimed that blacks were incapable of running their own lives and were destined to be forever “wards of the state” if freed by “radical” Republican (note that in those days, “conservative” was a term contrasted with “radical”, not “liberal”, and Lincoln himself argued he was the “true conservative” in contrast to his Democratic Senate opponent Douglas). Since Democrats decided to start calling themselves “Liberals”, they have set about trying to ensure this very outcome — creating all sorts of federal policies that undermined African American culture, family structure, education, etc., and carefully developing a dependency on the “benevolence” of Democratic welfare programs to force them to be “wards of the state”.

The Democratic Party has replaced the old Democratic notion of dependency on a slave “master” with the new Democratic notion of dependency on a government “master”. They replaced the old Democratic notion of constraining blacks to slave quarters with the new Democratic notion of moving them into “housing projects”. They replaced the old Democratic notion of forcibly separating black families and parents to keep slave children from gaining any sense of being separate from the plantation they served with the new Democratic notion of convincing African American mothers to reject marriage in order to ensure higher welfare payments to help raise their children. They replaced the old Democratic notion of constraining black aspirations by legally barring them from education with the new Democratic notion of telling African Americans that they are not competent to achieve on their own but must rely on Democratic policies of affirmative action to make it. They replaced the old Democratic notion of telling blacks exactly where they were allowed to stand, sit, and go to the bathroom with the new Democratic notion of being told exactly what they are allowed to think in order to be considered “authentically black” and not “Uncle Toms”.

My, my — how far the Democratic Party has come!
